5 Questions to Change The Way You See Yourself
Take out a pen and paper. Answer the following 5 questions carefully and slowly, but gradually, you’ll change the way you see yourself. Over the course of 5 weeks, we’ll discuss each of these questions from different perspectives. Some of these posts might help you understand your flaws better. Others might remind you of the benefits of self-appreciation. Changing the way you see yourself can help improve your life. It all starts with you!
1. What are your strengths and flaws?
This is a typical interview question where you’re asked to tell more about yourself and some strengths and weaknesses you have. But unlike the interview where you’re answering in hopes of getting the job, this question is here for you to learn more about yourself.
Be honest with yourself. List out all the things that you believe are your strengths and some flaws that you don’t usually share with people. This is the first step to understand yourself and progress from there.
2. What do you appreciate about yourself?
It could be your perfect hair or your stylish sense of fashion. Maybe you appreciate your quick learning ability or the confidence that you put on every morning. Are you grateful for the things you have or the qualities you possess?
In this fast-paced world, not everyone will slow down to appreciate the things you do for them or the company. But that’s okay. As long as you appreciate yourself, you won’t be disappointed when people fail to show their gratitude. But if they do, that’ll be a bonus!
3. Why did you wake up this morning to do what you did?
Are you waking up each morning to go to work and earn your paycheck? Or are you waking up with the idea of living a better and more fulfilling life? When you head to work, do you think about what you’re trying to achieve there? Is there a purpose greater than yourself that’s motivating you to work?
Learning your purpose and reminding yourself of WHY you wake up to do what you do can help you feel a greater satisfaction towards life. Give your life meaning, and everything you do will become a source of motivation.
4. What are your thoughts towards failure?
Failures can be scary. There could be consequences when you don’t get the job done right. But sometimes, we unconsciously amplify this fear and exaggerate the possible consequences. Maybe, failure isn’t always such a bad idea. If it doesn’t hurt human lives and the impact is kept to a minimum, failures can teach us a great deal of knowledge.
Ask yourself, are you too afraid to fail that you spend most of your life thinking inside the box? Or are you going to make use of failures and grow exponentially with the experience?
What would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?
5. What is one thing you haven't forgiven yourself for?
Is there something you regret doing or even NOT doing, and you haven’t quite forgiven yourself for it? Or is there someone or something that you haven’t forgiven even after a long time?
Regardless of whose fault it is, you must learn to forgive yourself in order to move past it. You can’t ignore your feelings of sadness or guilt by running away. If you don’t forgive yourself, it will linger with you in the future. It’s time to forgive yourself and let go.
To Summarize
After spending some time answering each of these 5 questions carefully, you’ll start to get the idea of how you can change the way you see yourself. You will come to understand that your flaws are what make you special and that self-appreciation can go a long way. Instead of holding yourself guilty for something in the past, try to forgive and let go for a better future. These questions only serve as a stepping stone for you to see yourself differently and make improvements for a better you.
