Discover the hidden potential of a Vision Board
I’m sure most of you have heard of all the scientific benefits of visualization, how it helps professional athletes win the gold medal, or a garage-based startup become a millionaire business. While visualization has proven extremely useful, it’s only as effective as you practice it. That’s where the vision board can help.
What is a Vision Board
The name says it all. It’s a board with your vision on it. But, of course, you don’t have to stick with a board. You can always improvise and use your magnetic fridge or LED string lights with clips.
The Purpose of a Vision board
By making your vision board, you are clarifying your goals for yourself. You come to an understanding of how you define success or what you think is meaningful in life. You also explore what makes you feel alive or lights up the passion hidden inside you.
Once your vision becomes crystal clear, the vision board you put together will act as a daily reminder. Whenever you look at it, you’ll remember your goal. And from there, you’ll decide what steps you need to take that day to get you closer to your vision.
Things to Add
To boost your creative side, search for photos from magazines or online. What would the future look like after you’ve achieved your goal? If you want a summerhouse, pin a photograph of your dream house onto your vision board.
Besides photos, you can include your favorite quotes that inspire you to take action. You can even clip 3D items onto your vision board, like the keychain that reminds you of the place you want to travel to again.
My Vision Board
As you can see, it’s not quite complete because I’m still on my journey of self-discovery. But that’s okay. For now, I have some postcards, keychains, stickers, and a stuffed toy.
I’ve always been a HUGE fan of stars and constellations. Though so far, I can only point out the Orion constellation (thanks to the Orion belt). Hopefully, one day, I can go on a stargazing trip and sleep under a blanket full of stars.
My vision board also has multiple Japan-related photos, a keychain, and a postcard because I absolutely love Japan. From the city to the countryside, riding a bicycle to the market on a peaceful afternoon, or enjoying the sakura-filled scenery. I can’t wait to try living in Japan for several months. But first, I’ll have to brush up on my Japanese!
There’s also a keychain with a Chinese quote which I find inspiring. Loosely translated, it means “Don’t underestimate yourself because people have infinite possibilities.” It reminds me that nothing is impossible. And that I shouldn’t let my mindset limit my capability to achieve and succeed.
