It’s never too late to start! We hear this saying all the time but what is there to start besides planting trees? Well, there is something that we can all start doing which we will thank ourselves for in the future. And that is, to foster healthy habits!
There are plenty of habits that can bring extraordinary benefits and change our lives for the better. But we struggle to do so because it seems like too much effort to get started or to keep the habit going. Here in this post, we’ll cover a few healthy habits that can help transform your life and some tips on how to get started. The key is consistency. Try not to overwhelm yourself at first.
A few healthy habits you can consider fostering:
Wake up early
If you want to change your life, the easiest and most effective way to start is to wake up early. If you give yourself excuses like “I’m not a morning person,” or along those lines, then you’re clearly not that committed to changing your life. It’s never easy to change. But, if it’s something that you strongly desire, then waking up earlier is the first step. When you’ve tried it once, you’ll be surprised and also proud of yourself for taking this enormous step towards changing your life.

Exercise
Once you get the hang of waking up early, maybe you can try adding a morning exercise into your routine. After a long day at work, you might come home feeling too exhausted to exercise. We totally understand. That’s why, instead of exercising after work, you can try exercising BEFORE you work.
Previously, you might think there’s no time for you to work out in the morning. But with the new habit of waking up early, there’s plenty of time for you to empower your body.
Spend 5 minutes each morning jogging around your neighborhood.
Have a 10-minute dynamic warm-up and spend another 20 minutes on jogging, exercising, or even yoga.
Meditate
What better time to meditate than early in the morning when everyone is still asleep and the air is fresh and crispy? You might hear the sounds of nature as you enjoy a meditation session calmly on your back lawn.
Witness the beautiful sight of the golden sunrise beyond the horizon. You’ll feel much calmer and less stressed during difficult times as you continue to practice meditation.

Set Goals & Review regularly
One of the many healthy habits to pick up is regularly setting goals and reviewing them. In some sense, your goals are your purpose.
Without appropriate targets to act as milestones and achievements when you reach them, it’s hard to feel motivated because there’s no purpose. It’s essential to set goals and review them regularly to see if you’re on track or have better ideas on how you’ll achieve them.
Set a short-term goal and review it every weekend.
Set a long-term goal and break it down into smaller goals to achieve over the months. You can review your smaller goals every morning and reflect on them every evening. Look back at your long-term goal every 2 weeks to see if you're on track.
Block Distractions
Most articles talk about how you can manage your time better by making plans and prioritizing tasks. These are all extremely important, but let’s not forget that the assumption made is that you have 100% focus. To ensure that you pay full attention to the task at hand, you must block all distractions (especially from social media) and focus.
Once you have a habit of putting away anything that might distract you while you’re working, you can effortlessly get work done and save yourself a lot of time.
Download a digital detox app and set a timer to lock your phone for 20 minutes.
(An alternative way could be to set your playlist to play peaceful piano songs for 20 minutes before stopping.)
Set a timer for 50 minutes and put your phone face down as you work.
Read a Book
Books can teach you things that schools don’t tell you about. To succeed, you need to work hard, but more importantly, you have to work smart.
Reading about other people’s success and how they achieved it can’t guarantee that you will succeed too. But, learning from their mistakes and absorbing their experience as if it’s your own can unquestionably benefit you one day. Reading is one of the many healthy habits that can only give you more.
If you read 20 pages a day, you’ll have read 2-3 books a month. And in a year, that would around 30 books. Imagine all the new knowledge you would acquire!
Start by reading for 5 minutes each day. (The key is to be consistent!)
Start with 15 pages a day and slowly work your way up to a chapter.
Eat more fruits & veggies
Most problems that adults face can be avoided if we started taking care of our bodies earlier. However, it’s never too late to start now!
Besides exercising regularly, having a balanced diet is equally important. You need to avoid heavily processed food and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables. Cut back on fatty food and remember to stay hydrated at all times.
When eating mindfully becomes one of the healthy habits you’ve fostered, you’ll notice how much easier it is for you to get things done.
Health is not only an absence of sickness: it means possessing and expending vitality.

Start with eating 1 serving of fruits each day. You can also set alarms with fun ringtones to remind yourself to eat fruits.
Have at least 1 serving of fruits each day and dedicate one day each week to eat vegetarian. Slowly work yourself up to 2-3 times a week or even become a full-time vegetarian if you enjoy the benefits of a plant-based diet.
Declutter
Decluttering is a process that takes time. You can’t expect everything to clear out within a day or two when you’ve been accumulating the clutter for weeks or months. But, tidying can be a mindful activity to enjoy.
You not only clean out the clutter and free physical space, but you also clear your mind because there won’t be piles of clothing bothering you in the corner of your eye. Take this time to free yourself!
Pick one small area to clean up each day. It could be one of your drawers or THE chair.
Tackle one area each week and discard 3 items each day. You can choose to recycle, donate or even sell your items.
To Sum Up
Habits are what make the impossible possible. Rather than wishing for overnight success, let’s aim to foster these healthy habits and transform our lives forever. You can be successful in every aspect you desire and it all comes down to consistency and constant progress. Do something today that your future self will thank you for!
